About New Medical Education Pty Ltd

New Medical Education Australia Pty Ltd (NewMed) is an exciting venture aspiring to become a University College offering a 4 year graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine Program (MD Program). The Program delivery will be distributed, facilitated in small groups, innovative, and technology-supported, with dedicated face-to-face teaching weeks. NewMed is not yet a medical school, requiring successful registration and accreditation with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA) and accreditation with the Australian Medical Council (AMC). NewMed has lodged its TEQSA submission, and subject to accreditation, plans to commence in 2026.

About the Position

The MD Program Director is a senior academic leader with a track record in teaching and learning, program administration, research and scholarship. You will work with the Vice Chancellor & Dean to continue to create and establish this innovative medical program, guiding our expanding faculty and managing all aspects of the program delivery.

The MD Program Director reports to and supports the Vice Chancellor and Dean, in ensuring high quality teaching and learning outcomes are achieved, with focus on continuing improvement.

Key Responsibilities

The MD Program Director’s responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Joining with our expanding faculty to complete the MD Program curriculum resources according to our innovative program design, with case-base learning, masterclasses, programmatic assessment, eportfolio and entrustable professional activities;
  • Supporting the faculty and professional staff;
  • Actively participating in any AMC accreditation activities in 2024-2025;

When the MD Program is underway (anticipated to be from early 2026):

  • Promoting continuous improvement by making recommendations to the Vice Chancellor and Dean, and the Academic Board, regarding improvements to the program, the manner of its delivery, student learning outcomes and new developments in higher education that should be considered for inclusion in the program;
  • Managing the annual review of the Doctor of Medicine degree in line with NewMed’s policies, frameworks and intended learning outcomes;
  • Contributing to academic induction and student orientation each study period;
  • Liaising with relevant academic staff in ensuring student progression, including monitoring student progression and membership of Progress Panels;
  • Overseeing and reporting on student assessment including moderation activities;
  • Ensuring all learning materials and resources for each year-long Unit are current and available to students and staff prior to the commencement of the teaching period;
  • Supporting students over the course of their studies, identifying students at risk and taking appropriate proactive actions;
  • Managing allegations of academic misconduct, maintaining appropriate records and providing referrals to academic support services as required;
  • Overseeing and reporting on student and staff satisfaction surveys for each unit of study and recommending enhancements;
  • Coordinating clinical partnerships and placements, and monitoring and reporting on the outcome of clinical placements for students;
  • Compiling regular reports on assessment, program reviews and moderation for the Teaching and Learning Committee and the Vice Chancellor and Dean;
  • Undertaking and participating in performance reviews of academic teaching staff;
  • Contributing to the recruitment and management of academic staff;
  • Complying with and supporting the implementation of NewMed’s policies and procedures;
  • Undertaking other duties as required by the Vice Chancellor and Dean.
Required Qualifications and Experience
  • Qualifications in a relevant medical field, at PhD level or equivalent qualifications and experience, and at least five years senior experience in a teaching and learning role;
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully managing higher education academic programs, including planning staffing and resources within budget;
  • Understanding of the higher education regulatory framework, including the Higher Education Standards Framework 2021, the Standards for Assessment and Accreditation of Primary Medical Programs by the Australian Medical Council 2023;
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, mentoring and developing academic and clinical teaching staff, fostering excellence, scholarly engagement, collegiality, inclusion and continuous improvement;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills related to educational research and scholarship;
  • Be known to have excellent professional integrity and have shown ethical conduct;
  • National standing in medical and health professional education
Desirable Qualifications and Experience
  • Being medically trained, and clinically active (or recently clinically active);
  • Qualifications in medical or health professional education;
  • International standing in medical and health professional education;
  • Experience in medical school accreditations and regulatory reporting.
Appointment at Level D or E (Associate Professor or Professor)
