Doctor of Medicine
Years 1 & 2 of the NewMed program comprise:
- Integrated learning modules and assessment across the ten bodily systems
- Medical principles, matched with clinical Problem-Based Learning
- Cases which progressively increase in complexity, encouraging students to continuously review and enhance their knowledge
- Participation in clinical and healthcare ecosystem activities for 4 hours per week.
Year 3 of the NewMed program includes:
- A 40 week clerkship of 25 hours per week, in outer urban and regional Primary Care centres, exposing students to a wide array of patient presentations
- Continued engagement in virtual classrooms and back-to-base workshops as students develop their communication, empathy, resilience, cultural competence and inter-disciplinary team collaboration to optimise patient outcomes.
The final Year 4 will see students emersed in clinical practice through speciality rotations at partner training hospitals supplemented with:
- Final integrated learning modules and assessment
- Completion of elective modules and assessment
- Finalisation of a research project.
